Questions About Connecting With Your Higher Self

My psychic experiences mainly started when I was in highschool in my late years around year 10-12, I used to get deja-vu alot like twice a day. I knew who would be ringing on the phone and I knew what people were gonna say. Well now that I'm outta school I dont get deja-vu alot, just once in awhile. I can't tell who's ringing as much but most times I can still pick up on what people are gonna say. Anyway for about 3 weeks I've been reading up on psychic development and abilities, and I've been meditating for 20 mins daily. Since ive been meditating Ie been able to see more things that happen.

Now I have a couple of questions for you: Why dont I get deja-vu anymore? I think it's coz I have a lack of sleep, ccould this be why? How long does it take to be an advance psychic? When I meditate, what should I be thinking? I hear that I should picture myself in a forest, on a beach, in summer, in a field, anywhere, let your mind go wild.Or think of that but when someone comes to the picture focus on them.Which is it?and better? I also read about finding your higher self and that meditate to find it and ask your higher self questions for answers, does finding your higher self or meditating on someone change your skills to whatever you do? I heard that finding your higher self will let you know of anything anytime and make you aware of things, but doesn't being psychic do this?Or is it meditating and finding your higher self different to each other and effect differently? Sorry for my English, and thanks for your time, Matt

I'm happy to answer your questions.  First, the difference between the Higher Self and the Spirit Guide:  your Higher Self is part of YOU. Your Spirit guide is someone else, a mentor, even a kind of "supervisor" assigned to help you, your everyday, mortal-level self.  Here is how I understand this: our souls have levels of awareness from the very basic, physical level awareness, all the way up to God- awareness and unity with the All That Is.  Our Higher Self is the level of awareness that we have at the 8th chakra- about a foot above your head in your etheric field.  This is the level that is both attuned to your consciousness,
thoughts and feelings, and is also attuned to higher levels of your soul awareness.

Because it's so close to our emotional and mental bodies, it's still very verbal, and we can listen easily at this level of ourselves, ask questions about our lives, do a "reality check" about choices we are facing in our lives, and access information about past lives, the meaning of current life challenges, soul contracts we may have, relationship issues we have, etc.  Because this level of ourselves is more expanded and "beyond" our physical reality, it is a great source of comfort, support, and wisdom.

This level of ourselves is the easiest place to reach to in learning to move with wisdom and grace in our current incarnation.  The next level up is more fluid, not very verbal, and yes, is more profoundly loving and free from the misunderstandings of the physical world- so accessing this, or any other Higher Level aspect of our soul body is extremely healing!  I encourage everyone to practice reaching further and further up.  Doing that, you make contact and "live inside" a purer level of yourself for as long as you are in contact with it.  It feels like being FREE.  And this, my friend, is the reality.

Now, about Spirit Guides.  My understanding is that we have one primary Spirit Guide who looks after us and is there to offer guidance and support and a critical but non-judgmental eye to our status in the process of attaining our goals for a current lifetime.  We come into life with certain key goals and ambitions for our soul development and mastery, and our Guide is our main "point-person".  We also have other people who know and love us and are looking out after our mastery, and if we ask for help about anything in our lives, many will rush in to offer guidance and support.  All we have to do is ask and listen well, and a multitude of helpers are available for us.  It's a heavenly kingdom, basically!

You are asking how we see our Higher Self.  How you perceive the communication from your Higher Self will be unique to you.  The information is coming through psychically, and may be in the form of symbols, thoughts in your head, feelings that you feel either in your heart or in your body, visual images- any of the senses may be used. There is no one right way- you are getting the information psychically, and the form doesn't matter.  Listen with your entire being.  Once you
open, you'll feel it when it comes.  No matter which sense it's coming through, there will be an inner recognition- a YES feeling.

About meditating- the first thing is to learn to listen without thinking- to let your conscious mind thoughts fall away and quiet so that the spiritual communication begins.  Now, when you meditate on a question, you are not just listening.  You are ASKING and then listening for an ANSWER.  You can use meditation for this as well.  So, the first example is about listening in an open-ended way, and the second has a specific direction to it.  When you listen in an open-ended way, lots of healing and processing and inner development can occur- you are making a quiet place to open to your Soul and to the loving forces of the universe.  Very useful!  And also, when you have something you want guidance about, or healing about, you can ask the question or make a request and then sit back and meditate, and allow the guidance and healing to come through however it comes.  Don't assume that it will happen in a certain way- just assume that it is happening, and listen for understanding.  If you find you need the answer to come in a certain way, then ask for it.  Yes, you can ask for it.  It may come right away in that form, or if you've chosen a form that happens to be complicated for you, it could be a long time practicing before it comes just how you asked.  So, in my experience, letting your body, heart and soul decide and opening to awareness of what's happening is easier.  For example, I find that when I ask a question, I get a combination of visual, of"knowing" and of events in my life in the next few days which lead the way. It might be very different for you- there's no one "right" way. I follow my nose (it always knows).

Now, about sleep.  There is no correct amount of sleep.  Are you having a problem with it?

Hope this helps! Warmly, Barb Huning

I'm a little confused on meditating, and it is right that you aren't supposed to think about anything (quieting your mind) and to avoid any thoughts. If I'm correct this leads to the sub-conscience mind. This is now when you see things. If you are to avoid thinking, how do you meditate on a subject or topic? How many hours sleep is good?.How do we hear our higher-self? Through hearing it,seeing or visual?

I'm happy to answer your questions!  It certainly sounds like you have the gift for listening multi-dimensionally.  To begin with, it sounds like you have a real interest in this, as well as natural talent.  You certainly can continue to develop your abilities, and explore possibilities for using this for your own personal development and, if you wish, in service to others.

Below are some thoughts about your questions.  I encourage you to ask these questions also in your own meditations, and see what kind of answers you get!

1. How come I don't get deja-vu anymore? I think it's coz I have lack of sleep -I goto bed late now and get up late. In highschool I used to get up early and go to bed around 11. Could this be why?

Less sleep which affects your clarity during the day could do it, yes- but also, it may be that you have simply moved on to other experiences. It wouldn't necessarily be a sign that you are not receiving intuitive information.

2. How long does it take to be an advanced psychic?

There is no set rule for how long it takes to become "advanced". Intuition come from both natural ability, and practice.  One person may have more natural talent, but not use it much- another may have only average natural talent, and with a great deal of diligent practice become very advanced.  Your rate of development will depend on more than one factor.  I think the biggest factor in your development will be your devotion to advancement, and your willingness to follow your own inner guidance about how to practice- and to simply explore and play around with it, to learn "how to drive", so to speak.

3. When I meditate, what should I be thinking? I hear that I should picture myself in a forest, beach, summer, field, anywher,e let your mind go wild. Or think of that but when someone comes to the picture focus on them. Which is it? And better?

The strict practice of meditation actually is the practice of allowing your mind to quiet so that the steady stream of images and thoughts and feelings dissipate and disappear.  What you are describing is an "inner journeying"- something which is also incredibly useful, but to get the most out of this, you should begin with the mind-quieting meditation. Or, if you love inner journeying, do both separately.  The practice of quieting your mind is essential for learning how to listen to Spirit, and learning how to get your mind and your ego and personal feelings out of the way.  Until you learn how to do this well enough, the inner journeying you do will probably include a lot of material that is not from Spirit, but from your mind, or your ego, or your conscience, etc. So, the better you get at quieting, the better control you will have when you journey inwardly in order to receive guidance or illumination or wisdom beyond your ego's level of understanding.

Many people report that when they start with the mind-quieting, after a period of practice, they reach a moment in their meditation in which suddenly "the bottom drops out and the universe opens widely within" them.  It's been referred to as "entering the inner courtyard" in Buddhism.  You will know what I mean when it happens.  All of a sudden you stop experiencing yourself as separate from the rest of the universe.  When you reach that state, then sometimes you will simply float in this "nothing/everything-ness", and sometimes you enter a vision which is a piece of guidance for you.  This is Higher Listening. You can do this to get guidance, and it will be an experiment within you of feeling out the meaning and the purpose.

4. I also read about finding your higher self - to meditate to find it and ask your higher self questions for answers, does finding your higher self or meditating on someone change your skills to whatever you do? I heard that finding your higher self will let you know of anything anytime and make you aware of things, but doesn't being psychic do this? Or is it meditating and finding your higher self different to each other and effect differently?

Yes, this is important.  Being psychic means that you can access information intuitively- but using information wisely has to do with your Higher Self.  So, it's possible to be psychic, but to still be unwise, or to make choices based on lower desires and aims.  I've had lots of people ask me to tell them how to go about getting together with someone they are interested in romantically- this is a request for psychic information.  If they were asking for Higher Self guidance, they would be asking, "Would a relationship with this person be in alignment with my Soul- would it be wise to pursue a romance with him/her?"  This is the difference.  So, aiming for intutive connection with your Higher Self, or with Soul Guides or Angels, the Wise Ones, gives you not so much "hard information",as it does guidance about how to proceed in life for your Highest Good as a soul.  The other HUGE benefit that Higher Self Connection offers is support.  When you connect with your Higher Self in a time of need emotionally, you can ask for, and you will receive, emotional support, courage, feelings of inner peace, dedication to your intended purpose- whatever you need.  Higher Self won't necessarily obey a command to make a desired outcome happen just as you want it, although if it's a request that is in line with what your soul needs or wants, you'll see it happen miraculously fast- I've had this happen over and over and over again.  If you ask for something that's not in your best interest, you may find that things happen in your life to turn you away from the wrong direction you are heading in.  One way of thinking about the Higher Self is that this is the part of us who used to be sitting in the place where our conscious mind now sits. We've trained ourselves not to listen, and so the mind has taken over. Once you learn to ask your Higher Self what to do all the time, and know how to listen, even for little things, you find your life flowing in a really amazing way.  Your choices feel right, and they work.  Your understanding of hardships changes dramatically- you understand the events and don't feel victimized by them anymore.  Higher Self is a huge blessing.

Hope this info helps!  If you want some more info on learning how to meditate, do an internet search for "meditation instructions", and you will get a million links to useful websites.

Take care, have fun, and happy sailing as you grow with your ability.  I have a feeling this will be a very rich area of exploration for you! Warmly, Barb
