The Ominous Quatrain
Said Nostradamus:
"In the year 1999 and seven months,
From the skies shall come an alarmingly powerful king,
To raise again the great King of the Jacquerie,
Before and after, Mars shall reign at will."
On this page we search "Ground Zero" (July 28th, 1999) for astrological clues as to what may be in store for us. We will also look at the numerical implications for the year 1999 as well as 2000, as Nostradamus did more than four hundred years ago and we present an alternative interpretation of the ominous X72 quatrain. We’ll take a glimpse at the current conditions that present a real potential for what lies ahead and we'll answer the question "how will someone born around July 28, 1999 be affected by these powerful astrological aspects?".
Of all the quatrains written by Nostradamus this one will be the most important for our generation to come to know and understand. The year and month of his prediction denote a stellar sequence that is equivalent to the proverbial writing on the wall. Nostradamus no doubt used his psychic abilities as well as his knowledge of astrology and the Kabalah to compose this quatrain.

I believe that Nostradamus was specifically referring to the events of July 99 since there was a very significant series of astrological that was initiated then... what you are noticing now are the effects of that time - the portents of last year were indicators that times are changing, the energy's accelerating... the world is changing... over the next decade we'll see some massive changes in our political, economic and environmental systems and the world itself may look very different tan it does today... "In the year 1999 and seven months." As this predictive verse opens, we look to astrology for answers and find a good reason for Nostradamus to have taken note so long ago.
The Full Moon on 7/28/99 is so rich with astrological turmoil you may find yourself wanting to run for the hills! Before and after July 28th, the stars portend a period of sudden and unforeseen events, events that will affect the way the world sees itself well into the next century.
In addition, the major planets will be squaring each other (90 degree angles), creating, among other things, large-scale obstacles in relation to groups of people and their personal possessions.
The heavens warn that we are in a period of global financial meltdown, along with quite possibly the most unstable geo-political status in recent history. Beginning in the fall of ’98, the trends that will affect us all will start to emerge. Look for wild gyrations in the stock market.
How will the stars affect someone born on or around July 28/1999?
Our visitors asked, so Randy responded to the question of how the astrological alignment of July 28, 1999 would influence the birth chart - and life - of someone born around that date.
In response to the question concerning a child born near the 7/28/99 date. Persons born with an abundance of squares in their charts, may at first glance, seem to have a life of hardship ahead of them. This may not be the case as the squares can act as building blocks for making a person quite capable of meeting almost any challenge. Many persons with such charts have gone on to make considerable contributions to society as a whole. They also have an opportunity to pay off a lot of karma in one lifetime.
I would urge Lisa to instill in the child a sense of inner serenity as well as a practical down to earth approach to life's basic necessities. If inheritance/trust funds were in the child's future, I would recommend it be totally protected from abuse. If the child is born on the full moon (7/27-29/99), there will be a change in the life style around the early twenties as a distinct 'alter ego' appears. Of course the variables (rising sign, house placement and moon sign) add so much to the equation that it would be best to draw a chart upon the blessed arrival for a clear appraisal.
In choosing a name, avoid Ann, Sean, and Steve. Choose names with W's, S's, and double L's. Beyond that, all I can say is have no fear and welcome the child into the world. Sincerely, Randy
Astrologically, and technically speaking, about In the year 1999 and seven months:
Saturn transiting the 2nd house (material resources) squares Uranus; which is transiting the 11th house (groups of people). This might indicate that large groups of people will be having difficulty maintaining the framework of their material lives such as houses, cars, and property.Jupiter transiting the 2nd house squares Neptune, which is traveling along with Uranus in the 11th house. Self -deception on a large scale in relation to one’s personal/financial well being would characterize these aspects. Mutual fund holders will watch the value of their funds recede while saying to themselves, "I can afford to lose some because I am in it for the long haul."Mars will be transiting the 8th house (joint finances and extensive changes) for 22 months and will be part of the action in July of ‘99 as it squares the Sun in the 5th house (speculative ventures) and the Moon in the 11th house. This all happens shortly following the Full Moon, stimulating an aggressive and emotionally unstable period.
Mercury (reasoning) opposes Neptune (illusion) while squaring Jupiter (prosperity and abundance). These aspects may indicate a lack of direction or the inability to think clearly concerning 5th (speculation), 11th (groups of people), 2nd (personal worth), and 8th house (financial institutions) matters.
It’s really not hard to see the scenario, for a large-scale economic change, building up right outside your window. The masses are pouring their savings into mutual funds; daily force feeding the market, never truly realizing the extent of their risk to lose it all. The Russian economy is on the rocks along with most of the Pacific basin group. Mexico and South America will follow suit, and the impact will eventually reach the United States.
Pluto is not a part of these squares but plays a significant role none the less. In July of ‘99 Pluto will be transiting 8 degrees of Sagittarius, the same address it occupied on March 10th of this year, when the Kosovo Liberation Army started its current uprising. We may see this movement contribute to 7/28/99.
It builds, the numbers add up:
Conflicts around the globe increase the strain on N.A.T.O. and U.S. peacekeeping forces, as more and more ‘freedom fighters’ seize their opportunity in the world arena. Israel will be stressed-out domestically with the threat of gas/chemical weapon deployment a real possibility. As conditions deteriorate mankind will react emotionally forming into aggressive groups. Religious, political, and racial groups will participate in witch-hunts, looking to blame others for the resulting conditions. Many an argument will follow 7/28/99.
Although this predicted period contains all these elements together in a sort of stellar broth, you should remember that as with any recipe the ingredients are added slowly over a period of time. The first of these squares appears in June of ‘98, builds up from there, and continues through 1999.
Numerically speaking, the year 1999 itself equates to a sudden and total change. The "19" equals sudden and rash actions; the three "9"s together represent rapid change and the Omega. The year 2000 equates to the year of lack. The "2" is paradoxical, either co-operate or compete; "0"s represent all or nothing. All through the nineties the conditions that have lead us to 7/28/99 have been in gestation; a lot of small changes leading up to one big change. The events that occur in ‘99 will happen fast and change things completely. This will be quite a comparison to the relatively quiet opening years of the next millennium, in which the basic necessities will be of most importance. China will come out of this period stronger than before, benefiting from the misfortunes of its neighbors.
With the fall of the old Soviet Union, the world has become increasingly unstable, especially in the former Yugoslavia. The Kosovo Liberation Army (with Albania’s support) stands a good chance of de-stabilizing the entire area, pitting the N.A.T.O. alliance against Russia. Saddam Hussein is working hard to arm Iraq with the latest nuclear weapons, in an effort to keep up with his neighbors. And now we can add Usamah Bin Mohammed Bin Laden to the mix.
"From the skies shall come an alarmingly powerful king". As this line suggests a vision, you may conclude that Nostradamus employed his psychic sense as the source for this information. The vision of a ruler, commanding enormous power through the air, must have seemed impossible at the time. However, recent events have proven him right; as the United States represented by Bill Clinton (or anyone else for that matter) can send a guided missile over hundreds of miles right to someone’s front door or terrorist camp as the case may be.
"To raise again the great King of the Jacquerie". Unfortunately the cruise missiles may have served as a rallying call to terrorist Usamah Bin Mohammed Bin Laden. The "King of the Jacquerie" refers to Guillaume Karle {c.1358}, a leader of a peasant revolt, which was marked by violence and destruction. Usamah Bin Mohammed Bin Laden lives among refugees in caves (even though he is wealthy) and certainly promotes violence and destruction. He may very well be the person foretold of so long ago. If so, as international events unfold, we will surely witness him play a part in 7/28/99.
"Before and after, Mars shall reign at will". Mars, the planet of war, will be in Scorpio over twenty weeks through 1999. While moving through Scorpio, Mars will be repeatedly squaring Uranus and Neptune (explosive unexpected events that are composed in secret). To say that terrorists strike "at will" is an understatement, and even the U.S.A. has shown that it, too, can strike "at will" without consulting even its closest ally. We will probably see more of the same actions we witnessed this August ’98 gain momentum in the fall and come to a climax 7/28/99.
The closer we are to July of ’99, the more apparent the meaning of this quatrain becomes.
Only time will tell. As Nostradamus said, we have the power to change the future and maybe, with his help, we can avoid the "potential future" we glimpse now, and plan accordingly.

I believe your analysis is incorrect: First, I think you would agree with me that the form of the Quatrains demand an inordinate economy of means from the writer. The symbolic meaning is greatly condensed, and thus, _every word_ is semantically significant.
[1]: "To raise again", to _resurrect_, to rise again, rebirth after death, PHOENIX.
[2]: "the great King", Mighty, Great in extent, power, and reach. EMPIRE.
[3]: "of the Jacquerie", the peasents, the masses, the weak, the poor. OF THE PROLETARIAT.
I believe the correct association is a reference to a 'resurrection' of the Soviet Union: To raise again (from the ashes) the Great Empire of the Proletariat.
